pumpkaphenomenal.

is it the final day of pumpktoberfest already? well gosh darnit, i guess all "good" things must come to an end & stuff. that doesn't mean that we can't go out with a bang though, right? today, to mark the final day of the season, we've got not one but TWO PUMPKTASTIC POSTS!!! ISN'T THAT TOTALLY AWESOME?!!! to be honest, i was hoping to post this some time this past weekend but then i got lazy & slacked on writing it. my weekend sloth is your monday reward! anyhow, the other day, we shared a recipe for pumpkin oatmeal cookies with you & today, for our last snack of the pumpktoberfest season, we've got another tasty vegan pumpkin cookie--alternative baking company's phenomenal pumpkin spice cookie.

i've tried a bunch of alternative baking's cookies over the past year or so. their cranberry orange muffin cookie was my #3 snack of 2010 & lately, i've been eating a bunch of their double chocolate decadence cookies but i just plain haven't got around to giving it its proper blog coverage. in short, i've enjoyed all of their cookies that i've tried thus far & their pumpkin spice cookie follows in that tradition. its ingredients list is pretty simple: whole wheat flour, cane sugar, pumpkin, palm oil, fruit juice and natural grain dextrins, natural tapioca and potato starches, vanilla, water, natural spices, aluminum-free baking powder, baking soda & sea salt. mmm...aluminum-free baking powder.

basically, it's like a moist sugar cookie that's enhanced with the flavors of pumpkin & the sort of spices that usually run in the same crowd as pumpkins--nutmeg or cinnamon or allspice or something. since it's similar to a sugar cookie, it's even got the crunchiness of a few sugar crystals on the outside of it. all together, it's a tasty, simply done cookie with a unique flavor. from what i can tell, it's not a seasonal cookie so, although pumpktoberfest ends today, you should be able to get one of them for some time to come. if you find one in your local health food store or bodega, pick it up. it's well worth the $3 or so price tag...pumpkaphenomenal!
