parowpyro in cheese, combos, crackers, random ramblings

if you've known me for a while, you know that i've always had a soft spot/hard on in my heart/pants for combos. i'm fully aware that they're more processed than a fresh batch of recently captured illegal immigrants but they're tasty little bite-sized snacks that i just can't get enough of, so i don't care if they're made with repurposed pig snouts. this past weekend, i was at one of my local bodegas grabbing a pair of beers & noticed that they had both zesty salsa tortilla & jalapeno cheddar tortilla combos for sale. tortillas? that's totally south of the border! since i have little to no willpower, i couldn't resist getting one of each to snack on with my beers.

the jalapeno cheddar combos can't even hold a candle to the zesty salsa ones. while they both have a shell made of stone ground corn that's by far the best of all the combo shells (suck it, pretzel & cracker), the center goo in the zesty salsa ones is much more flavorful. that isn't to say that the flavor tastes anything like zesty salsa, but it does have a sweet & tangy tomato flavor to it that makes it by far the champion goo of all the combo goos. the goo in the jalapeno cheddar ones has a flavor that's nothing more than a blend of bakers & cheddar cheese with a slight spiciness to it. meh.

the best part about these bags of combos? one bag gives you about 1/4 of your daily allowance of both sodium & saturated fat. it's like nutrition in a bag! also, let it be noted that by eating two 1.5 oz packages of combos, i got a total of 420 calories. it has to be either the greatest coincidence EVER or an example of the geniuses in the lab at mars taking the time & care to manufacture the perfect combo, one that speaks to their customers on levels that the average snacker can't even begin to comprehend. i'm going to assume that it's the latter.
