parowpyro in lunch, random ramblings, taco

this afternoon, i was in the city for work-related developments & since i'm never EVER in the city these days (long live brooklyn!), i scanned the ol' twitter feed to see where the manhattan food trucks were hanging out today. i discovered that one of the korilla BBQ trucks had parked on park & 25th at 11am, just blocks from my work-related destination. i'm down with korean tacos. korilla BBQ for the win!

luckily the truck was still on 25th st when i arrived just before 2pm. i waited maybe ten minutes in line from the time i arrived. i've waited on line for the bathroom at set break during a phish show...ten minutes is no big deal as far as lines go. my favorite part of waiting in line was watching different brands of new yorkers pass the truck with a look of curiosity on their face. what is that tiger? what are they serving? is that cool?

actually, scratch that. DELETE! my favorite part of waiting in line was that there was a pile of trash/recyclables about ten feet from the truck & a couple who was obviously down on their luck actually declared "BINGO!" when they walked past & saw the titianic just-off-park-ave bottle & can haul that they had stumbled upon. as they collected their haul, i ordered the korean BBQ tacos that i had tracked down on twitter.

i went for the meat trifecta. from left to right: wonderbird taco (chicken + kimchi), porkinator taco (pork + kimchi + korilla suace), ribeye of the tiger taco (angus steak + kimchi + korilla sauce).

they were all pretty tasty but if you held a .44 magnum to my head & were all "CHOOSE A FUCKIN TACO OR WE'RE ALL GONNA BE HAVING MONKEY BRAIN TACOS FOR DINNER, MAGILLA!"...i'd choose the ribeye of the tiger. the sauce was spicy & for a saucehead like me, quite yummy. the kimchi was more tasty & less stinky than the kimchi my senior year college roommate made in 90 degree weather in our allston apartment the summer after college.

$7 for three tacos...pricewise, that's better than calexico (a 2008 vendy award winner & my current nyc taco fave) & tastewise, both calexico & korilla are really good but in different ways. calexico's tacos are simple. korilla's are ambitiously flavorful. yeah, korilla. if you're looking for a simple, family-friendly tagline, you can have that..."ambitiously flavorful." let's put it this way: i wouldn't kick either out of the bed that is my mouth. in fact, i'd invite them both in to my mouth bed...just to see what would happen. yeah. chew on that image. mouth bed.
